Literally meaning ‘David singing before the sun’ this sculpture from 1882 records the story of David and Saul from Samuel, chapter sixteen, verse twenty-three. The English Standard version of the Bible states: ‘And whenever the harmful spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the lyre and played it with his hand. So Saul was refreshed and was well, and the harmful spirit departed from him’. This sculpture is a bronze work with green patina.
