Description

Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments describes the instrument as a ‘Two-string fiddle of the Han Chinese’; it is played using a bow, with the instrument resting on one’s knee. Consists of a bamboo neck (head filled and decorated with one or more ?Chinese characters) and a hollow ?bamboo body, one end of which is closed with a piece of ?snake skin; two conical-shaped tuning pegs both inserted from the same side.

Neck: total length 453mm, projecting length 399mm. Body: 106mm long, 48.5mm diameter. Tuning pegs 139mm long.
