A sketch for the picture exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1854 no. 594. The life appears to be visibly draining from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in this forlorn depiction of his final hours. His pallid complexion, coupled with the dazzling white bedlinen, are in stark contrast to the rich palette Grant uses to depict the composer's concerned attendant and the surrounding interiors. Bequeathed by Mr George Watson through the Art Fund.
